Indigenous as mechanism for re-dress

In SA and Africa we could say that we share indigenousness in varying ways. Scholars argue that the relationship between the state and the indigenous minority is one of unequal distribution of power. The Indigenous issue in Africa today relates to the complex internal relationship between the Indigenous majority who, like the colonizers see nation-building as moving towards a hegemonic state, satisfying the interest of the majority, while the Indigenous minorities continue to experience another form of internal colonialism. I am aware that the SA government and the Human Rights Commission has commissioned and executed research projects like the one titled the “Promotion of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Rights through implementation of the Principles of the ILO Convention 169 and the African Charter on Human and Peoples rights” in 2007 as well as one dated 2000. However, I wonder how many of you have a copy of this document or were involved in its research. So once again, I’d like to say that the term Indigenous, addresses the unequal relationship between the state and the people who have occupied the territory since the onslaught of colonialism and continental expansion. So now you may wonder who these Indigenous minorities are.
